Star Wine List puts Amsterdam on the global wine map

The award-winning international wine guide Star Wine List is today launching its wine guide to Amsterdam. The selection of top wine bars and wine restaurants is curated by Star Wine List’s Amsterdam ambassadors Edwin Raben and Simon J Woolf.

“Amsterdam is truly one of the most original and exciting cities in the world. But it has not always been so easy to find the great wine spots. As the city is opening up again, we are proud to present our new guide for wine lovers to the city,” says Krister Bengtsson, founder and publisher of Star Wine List.

19 top wine bars and wine restaurants have been selected by Simon J Woolf and Edwin Raben. Wine lovers can find the venues in maps, guides and even search for their favorite wines and see where they are listed.

Simon J Woolf: dynamic wine scene

“As horeca reopens its doors in the Netherlands, it’s great to see Amsterdam’s lively wine scene get some attention on Star Wine List. If you needed proof that this city has a dynamic wine scene, it can seen in the number of new openings – places that were just about to open, or in the planning as the pandemic hit. Natural wine in particular has seen amazing growth here over the last five years, and there’s a young audience in Amsterdam that loves its wine funky and its venues pretension-free. And that’s what this city excels at!” says wine writer Simon J Woolf, based in Amsterdam since 2014.

Edwin Raben: open minded wine city

Edwin Raben, four times Best sommelier in the Netherlands and former president of the Dutch Guild of Sommeliers, has also contributed to the selection. ”Amsterdam is a very open minded wine city today, also with a lot of knowledge when it comes to glassware, perfect serving temperatures and all that. And the funny thing is you can find everything here, both fancy design bars and old-school wooden Dutch bars – but all with equally good wine service. The level of knowledge is awesome,” says Edwin Raben.
