Just in time for the start of the 2024 harvest in Europa, the 35th Grand International Wine Award MUNDUS VINI came to an end early September. The best wines of this years’ Summer Tasting sum up to exactly 1,600 wines awarded the coveted MUNDUS VINI medals Silver, Gold and Grand Gold.

Italy still ahead

Once again this year the most successful origin is Italy with a total of 465 awards. 24 wines achieved the highest award Grand Gold, 270 were awarded Gold and 171 Silver.
Italy is followed by Spain with 278 awards (3 Grand Gold, 159 Gold, 116 Silver) and Germany with 192 awards (1 Grand Gold, 100 Gold, 91 Silver).
The Top 5 of the competition’s country ranking is completed by Portugal with 120 awards (3 Grand Gold, 71 Gold, 46 Silver) and France with 91 awards won (3 Grand Gold, 48 Gold, 40 Silver).

Up-and-coming: Eastern Europe

Eastern European countries are still one of the rising stars, earning a total of 175 awards consisting of 5 Grand Gold, 108 Gold and 62 Silver medals. The list is led by Georgia with 46 awards, followed by Romania with 43 award, Moldova (23), Czech Republic (16) and Bulgaria (13) as well as the Republic of North Macedonia and Croatia (9 awards each), Armenia (8), Hungary (5) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (3 awards).

Wines from the New World

The so-called New World wines are summing up to 168 awards in the Summer Tasting 2024 (4 Grand Gold, 119 Gold and 45 Silver). South Africa presents itself strongest in the list with 53 awards, closely followed by Australia with 45 awards. The list is completed by the United States of America (21), Chile (18 awards),  Argentina (12), New Zealand (10), Mexico (8) and one Silver award to Urugay.

The Best Wine Importer in Germany is Sorrentino with 31 awards (1 Grand Gold, 21 Gold, 9 Silver) for the wines imported to and distributed in Germany.
