The 33rd MUNDUS VINI International Wine Award came to an end on Sunday, September 3 2023, with a total of 1,676 award-winning wines. Almost 140 international wine experts travelled to the four-day tasting in Neustadt an der Weinstraße Germany.

In the medal table at the summer tasting, Italy is in first place (3 Grand Gold, 225 Gold, 215 Silver), followed by Spain (5 Grand Gold, 148 Gold, 125 Silver) and Germany (2 Grand Gold, 116 Gold, 118 silver). They are followed by Portugal (100 medals), France (90), Georgia (62) as well as South Africa (45), Austria (43), Romania (43) and the Czech Republic (40).

German growing regions and wines

Among the German growing regions, the Palatinate can once again secure first place (2 grand golds, 44 golds, 38 silvers), followed by Baden (55 medals), Franconia (22), Württemberg (also 22), Rheinhessen (19) and the Moselle (13). Wines from the Ahr, Rheingau, Saxony, Nahe and Saale-Unstrut were also successful.

Vier Jahreszeiten eG from Bad Dürkheim, Palatinate, has been awarded seven gold and eight silver awards as the most successful German wine cooperative.
The most successful German winery is the Weingut am Kaiserbaum, also in the Palatinate, which was able to win two grand gold and six gold medals for its wines.

This year, the award for the best importer in Germany goes to Eggers & Franke GmbH, who were awarded a total of 18 gold and 16 silver medals for the wines they sell in Germany.

International Awards

International awards include Taylor Wines (Australia, 1 Grand Gold, 6 Gold, 5 Silver), Vinaria Purcari (Moldova, 10 Gold, 6 Silver), Fattoria La Vialla (Italy, 1 Grand Gold, 5 Gold, 8 Silver). ) and Anecoop (Spain, 17 gold, 11 silver) were recognized as the best producers in their country.

Best of Show

The competition awards the “Best of Show” award, which is only given to the best wine in a category, for “Best of Show Champagne Vintage” (Alfred Gratien Millesime 2009), “Best of Show Germany noble sweet” ( 2018 Lerchenspiel Rieslaner Beerenauslese, Weingut am Kaiserbaum), “Best of Show Amarone” (Casa Vinicola Sartori) and the “Best of Show Fortified Wine” (61 Doarde en Rama, Bodega Cuatro Rayas).
