Tomorrow, June 4th, sees the advent of a new competition, organised by the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles in conjunction with the Abruzzo Region, which will award 8 Trophies for each competing category of food, from the aperitif through to dessert, including spicy dishes. The challenge will feature over 120 European wines judged by 45 international experts and paired with the prestigious cuisine of the Magione Papale restaurant. Students from the ‘Leonardo da Vinci L’Aquila’ Hospitality Institute will also be cooking.

Over 120 top rosé wines from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Spain, France, Greece, Portugal, Moldova, Romania, Slovakia and, of course, Italy. Forty-five international expert judges, including sommeliers, critics, buyers, journalists and organisation representatives. A sample of Abruzzo’s culinary excellence prepared by the prestigious Magione Papale restaurant in L’Aquila along with students from the ‘Leonardo da Vinci L’Aquila’ Hospitality Institute. Three highly competitive days, enhanced by four debates on topical ‘drink pink’ issues.

These are the cornerstones of the first Food & Rosé Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, which will take place in L’Aquila from 4 to 6 June. The event will fully comply with Covid social distancing rules and safety measures and use equipment supplied by Abruzzo company and event sponsor Safegatepro and Dante Labs of L’Aquila that will provide the mobile laboratory for Covid testing.

Food & Rosé Selection Trophies

The new challenge, hosted by the only touring competition in the world in conjunction with the Abruzzo Region, will this time focus on the perfect balance between food and rosé wine. It will award eight Food & Rosé Selection Trophies to the wines that show at their best with the different categories of food in the competition:

  • the aperitif
  • raw fish
  • cooked fish
  • cold meats
  • cooked meats
  • spicy foods
  • cheeses
  • desserts

The competing wines were already awarded Grand Gold Medals and Gold Medals at the first Rosé Selection by CMB held in March in Brussels.

Blind tasting sessions

From tomorrow until Sunday 6 June, emphasis will be placed on experimenting with different ways of enjoying rosé wines, whose global popularity has soared to new heights and whose versatility has made them the perfect aperitifs and partners for food. Food & Rosé Selection by CMB will aim to venture into uncharted flavour territory through blind tasting sessions, first with the wines on their own then with dishes made from some of Abruzzo’s most distinctive produce, ranging from seafood specialities to rural delicacies stemming from the ancient tradition of transhumance, which was recognised in 2019 by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The three-day event in L’Aquila will also allow attendees to go from practice to theory during four in-depth debates (visible online and available on demand via the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles YouTube account) which will review the current situation for rosé consumption, production and trends in Italy and worldwide with attendance by leading industry players.
