Fitzgerald in Rotterdam won three categories in the first ever Star Wine List of the Year Netherlands – including the prestigious Grand Prix category, presented by Austrian Wine. Fitzgerald has won the prize for the best wine list in the Netherlands. The award-winning wine guide Star Wine List revealed the winner during a live streamed event. Fitzgerald won three out of five categories at the event.

Fitzgerald won not only the Grand Prix but also for the Best Austrian Wine List (both categories presented by Austrian Wine) and the Best by the Glass List. Café de Klepel won the best short list, and Scheepskameel won the Special Jury Price (presented by Vinos Baettig).

It was the first time that Star Wine List of the Year came to the Netherlands after having awarded wine lists in the Scandinavian countries and Hong Kong/Macau.

The best sommelier of Europe, Raimonds Tomsons, handed out the prizes together with Star Wine List’s editor Andreas Grube.

Six of the top sommeliers in the world are in the jury, including world champion sommeliers Arvid Rosengren and Marc Almert, as well as renowned Dutch sommelier Edwin Raben. The jury votes independently for their favourites, considering width, depth, originality and value.

“The winelist is deep and wide, it has great organisation, and it is specialised on a global level without losing focus. Amazing wine list, and very fair pricing,” said Arvid Rosengren, Jury member and 2016 Best Sommelier of the World.

The prize, Star Wine List of the Year, is a celebration of the wine lists in the world, and the hard work by the sommeliers. In the Netherlands, the prize was awarded in five categories, and the winners of all five categories will also qualify for the Global Final.
