🇮🇹Do you know the difference between Moscato

🇮🇹Do you know the difference between Moscato d’Asti and Asti Spumante🤔

🥂Both are sparkling DOCG wines, made in the Asti region in Piedmont, in the north of Italy.

👩‍💻They are produced in a different way:

❄️After pressing the grapes for the Moscato d’Asti, the juice is stored in a cool place. On demand the juiced will be fermented in a tank which produces the bubbles. At 5,5% alcohol the fermentation will be stopped by cooling. In this way part of the sugar is not yet fermented, which results in a natural sweeter wine with fresh, grapy muscat fruit.

🍾Asti Spumante is produced with the Charmat method. After the first fermentation, the wine will undergo a second fermentation in a closed tank where the bubbles will appear. This fermentation takes longer, so more sugar will be absorbed. The alcohol content will be between 7-9,5%.

🔒Due to the difference in pressure (Moscato d’Asti max. 1,7 atmosphere - Asti Spumante 3,5-4 atmosphere) the first one can be closed with a screw cap, the Spumante with a cork and muselet.

🙋‍♀️So… this is how they are made in a nutshell. The main differences are the alcohol and sugar content and the strengt of the bubbles.

🍴Enjoy these wines as an aperitif with some cold cuts and/or soft blue cheese, with summer fruit like strawberries or sweet cakes/vanilla ice cream with summer fruit. Due to the lower alcohol content they are also perfect as a dessert wine after a (heavy) dinner or your Sunday brunch or breakfast!

🥇🇷🇴The VINARIUM International Wine Contest takes place every year in Romania.

🍷🥂VINARIUM 2023 is open to all categories and types of wine from all over the world, as defined in the “International Code of Oenological Practices”, which were produced in compliance with the legislation of the country of origin.

🍇Other special wines or grape-based products, must or wine, as well as spirituous beverages of vitivinicultural origin will be admitted in the contest.

✍︎The wines and other vitivinicultural products presented to the jury will be grouped in categories, according to the OIV regulation.

👩‍🎓The members of the international jury are oenologues, wine journalists, winemakers, sommeliers and other wine professionals.

🎉This year will be the 20th edition of the contest and it will take place in Ploiesti, a town in the Dealu Mare wine region.

⛰🍷🍇Every afternoon, after the tastings, visits to wineries in the Dealu Mare wine are scheduled.

🍇Vranac is a dark-skinned grape variety primarily grown in the Balkan region, particularly in Montenegro 🇲🇪 and North Macedonia 🇲🇰, though I tasted some Vranacs from Kosovo 🇽🇰 too during the @balkanwinesassociation press trip.

🐴"Vranac”, also known as “Vranec” or “Vranc”, means "black stallion”: the grapes have a thick skin and high tannin levels, which contributes to the wine's deep dark color and full-bodied, strong character💪.

🍷Vranac wines are typically rich and robust, with flavours of blackberries, plums, dark cherries, sometimes with herbal undertones; chocolate, liquorice, vanilla and cinnamon when oak aged.

🍇Prokupac is a red wine grape variety indigenou

🍇Prokupac is a red wine grape variety indigenous to the former Yugoslavia. Now it is mainly found in the south of Serbia.🇷🇸

💨The variety is vigorous and well-suited to the cool climate but loves some sunshine. With its thick skin it offers resistance to botrytis bunch rot and other fungal diseases.

🍷The grape is noted for the high sugar levels it can achieve and therefore the high levels of alcohol it can produce in the final wine.

⏳Prokupac is often used to produce a darkly colored rosé. Most red ones are made to enjoy young, but, as I experienced in Serbia, some wines can mature very well.

🤝It is also a perfect blending partner for more international grape varieties like syrah and cabernet sauvignon.

🍷🍒🌶Prokupac wines are ruby red, with a lot of red cherry fruit on the nose and the palate. The ones I tasted were full of fruit: cherry, blueberries, plum. But also spicy with lorbeer and a peppery finish.

🍴They have a nice acidity which makes them a perfect partner with fatter dishes.

🥇🇷🇴The VINARIUM International Wine Contest takes place every year in Romania.

🍷🥂VINARIUM 2023 is open to all categories and types of wine from all over the world, as defined in the “International Code of Oenological Practices”, which were produced in compliance with the legislation of the country of origin.

🍇Other special wines or grape-based products, must or wine, as well as spirituous beverages of vitivinicultural origin will be admitted in the contest.

✍︎The wines and other vitivinicultural products presented to the jury will be grouped in categories, according to the OIV regulation.

👩‍🎓The members of the international jury are oenologues, wine journalists, winemakers, sommeliers and other wine professionals.

🎉This year will be the 20th edition of the contest and it will take place in Ploiesti, a town in the Dealu Mare wine region.

⛰🍷🍇Every afternoon, after the tastings, visits to wineries in the Dealu Mare wine are scheduled.

🍇Vranac is a dark-skinned grape variety primarily grown in the Balkan region, particularly in Montenegro 🇲🇪 and North Macedonia 🇲🇰, though I tasted some Vranacs from Kosovo 🇽🇰 too during the @balkanwinesassociation press trip.

🐴"Vranac”, also known as “Vranec” or “Vranc”, means "black stallion”: the grapes have a thick skin and high tannin levels, which contributes to the wine's deep dark color and full-bodied, strong character💪.

🍷Vranac wines are typically rich and robust, with flavours of blackberries, plums, dark cherries, sometimes with herbal undertones; chocolate, liquorice, vanilla and cinnamon when oak aged.

🍇Prokupac is a red wine grape variety indigenou

🍇Prokupac is a red wine grape variety indigenous to the former Yugoslavia. Now it is mainly found in the south of Serbia.🇷🇸

💨The variety is vigorous and well-suited to the cool climate but loves some sunshine. With its thick skin it offers resistance to botrytis bunch rot and other fungal diseases.

🍷The grape is noted for the high sugar levels it can achieve and therefore the high levels of alcohol it can produce in the final wine.

⏳Prokupac is often used to produce a darkly colored rosé. Most red ones are made to enjoy young, but, as I experienced in Serbia, some wines can mature very well.

🤝It is also a perfect blending partner for more international grape varieties like syrah and cabernet sauvignon.

🍷🍒🌶Prokupac wines are ruby red, with a lot of red cherry fruit on the nose and the palate. The ones I tasted were full of fruit: cherry, blueberries, plum. But also spicy with lorbeer and a peppery finish.

🍴They have a nice acidity which makes them a perfect partner with fatter dishes.
